Commercial Intelligence & Strategic Business Development

Commercial intelligence for cross-border opportunities

MCITG combines structured commercial research, market intelligence and targeted business development — identifying where real opportunity exists, who the relevant counterparties are, and how a credible commercial conversation can begin.

01 — Overview

Turning market intelligence into commercial opportunity

MCITG is a research-led commercial intelligence practice. We work with organisations that need to understand a market before committing to it — where demand is forming, which projects are moving, which companies matter, and where a specific commercial requirement can be met.

Each engagement begins with a defined commercial objective and is answered through structured research: markets, sectors, projects, procurement structures and the companies operating around them. That research is then qualified for commercial relevance, so that what reaches a client is a short, considered set of opportunities and counterparties rather than a long list of possibilities.

Where it is appropriate, we take that work further — approaching relevant counterparties directly and supporting the early stages of a commercial conversation on our client's behalf.

The practice is deliberately small and selective. Work is conducted directly by the people responsible for it, and treated as confidential by default.

02 — Services

Six areas of work

Engagements are usually scoped around one of the following, and often move between them as an objective develops.

01

Market intelligence

Research into markets, sectors, companies, projects and commercial landscapes, including where demand and opportunity are emerging.

02

Opportunity identification

Identification of commercially relevant projects, procurement opportunities, market-entry routes and potential partnerships.

03

Strategic business development

Identification and direct approach of relevant commercial counterparties, based on clearly defined business objectives.

04

Cross-border intelligence

Research into commercial opportunities across international markets, and the connections between companies, markets and projects.

05

Supplier & buyer intelligence

Identification and evaluation of potentially relevant suppliers, buyers, distributors, manufacturers and other counterparties.

06

Project intelligence

Research into specific projects: stakeholders, procurement structures, supply requirements and the commercial ecosystem around them.

03 — Approach

From intelligence to opportunity

A sequence, not a menu. Each stage depends on the one before it, and an engagement can conclude at any point where the commercial case does not hold.

  1. 01

    Understand

Define the commercial objective, the market in question and the requirements that matter.

  2. 02

    Investigate

Conduct structured research into markets, companies, projects and commercial ecosystems.

  3. 03

    Qualify

Evaluate potential opportunities and counterparties for genuine commercial relevance.

  4. 04

    Connect

Facilitate targeted and appropriate commercial introductions where they are warranted.

  5. 05

    Develop

Support the progression of commercially relevant conversations toward potential opportunities.

04 — Focus

Areas of focus

Recurring areas of work, rather than the limits of the practice. Engagements outside them are considered on their merits.

01

Technology & digital infrastructure

Data centres, connectivity, computing capacity and the supply chains, sites and service providers around them.

02

Energy & infrastructure

Generation, transmission, grid connection and large infrastructure programmes, including their procurement structures.

03

Industrial & manufacturing

Production capacity, equipment and component sourcing, distribution routes and industrial supply relationships.

04

Natural resources

Upstream and downstream commercial activity, offtake and supply requirements, and the parties involved in them.

05

International markets

Market-entry research for organisations assessing an unfamiliar jurisdiction, its participants and its commercial norms.

05 — Engagement

Working across the commercial ecosystem

The practice is structured to work with organisations on either side of a commercial requirement — those seeking capability, capacity or market access, and those able to supply it. Engagements are typically with:

  • Technology companies
  • Infrastructure operators
  • Industrial businesses
  • Manufacturers
  • Suppliers
  • Project developers
  • Investors
  • Strategic partners
  • Businesses entering new markets

These describe the types of organisation the practice is equipped to work with. Client relationships are confidential and are not disclosed.

06 — Principles

Intelligence before introduction

A commercial introduction is only worth making when there is a reason for both parties to take the meeting. That reason has to be established first — through research, not assumption. It is what separates a relevant approach from an unsolicited one.

I

Research-led

Decisions and approaches are informed by structured commercial intelligence, not by assumption or convenience.

II

Targeted

Focus on a small number of genuinely relevant counterparties rather than broad, indiscriminate outreach.

III

Discreet

Commercial conversations are approached professionally and confidentially, at every stage.
